The little Marlin.

Man, this is fun. I talked about the Marlin Model 60 earlier, and today I gave it the last couple of coats. Funny thing about a project gun, though... it's a lot of fun to work on them, and I can't wait to be done so I can shoot the blamed thing, but at the same time I don't want it to end. A couple of other project guns are sitting in the closet because I finished them, took them out and shot them, then moved on to other things. Anyone else have this problem?

And here's the picture...

May not look like much (I suck as a photographer anyway) but a lot of work has gone into it.

You can probably tell just by looking that:
1. Williams peep sight on the rear.
2. No bayonet lug.
3. ATI gun stock. I like the length of pull and the original stock was beat all to crap anyway. I also drilled and installed a sling swivel to put a bipod on.
4. No grenade launcher (see my first post)

What you probably can't see:
1. Kivaari's trigger work. He does an awesome job.
2. Duracoat "Combat Black" paint job.

I will probably never be able to sell that rifle for what I have put into it, but the thing is, I probably never will. One of the great things about a hobby, I ain't in business to make money.

Another fun project...

Long story short, I came into possession of a beat up little Marlin model 60 .22 rifle. When I first got it (wish I had taken some pics) the idiot that had owned it before had wrapped a leather belt (not even a proper sling) around the barrel and magazine tube and tied it off at the stock. This bent the tube a bit as you can imagine. I cleaned out all the gunk and got one of the ATI Dragunov stocks to put it in to make myself a nice little plinker. Go figure, I'm in the military and I dig pistol type grips.

Anyway, referencing my last post, while I had the Duracoat out I decided to go ahead and do the Model 60 as well. Nice thing about holiday weekends is there is actually time to do these things.

Again, pics will be forthcoming as I finish these projects.

New guy.

Hi, I am yet another gun owner. I am currently in the US military and work part time on the weekends at a local range. I have a small collection of firearms that I enjoy shooting immensely, a tiny assortment of modern semis, handguns and milsurp rifles.

Had a great Thanksgiving, just me and the wife. We watched a little TV and I worked on Duracoating a Yugo SKS. I'm having a blast turning a formerly cosmoline coated piece of junk (it was in bad shape at the shop I picked it up in, I don't think the gun itself is crap) into a decent little plinker. I'll post some pics of it when I get done, but be warned, SKS lovers, some of the things I've done to it will make the hardcore shudder... like grinding off the bayonet lug (gasp!) and removing the grenade launcher and replacing it with a custom muzzle brake. Check this guy out if you're looking for an awesome brake for a Yugo SKS M59/66.
I hang out at Survivor's SKS Boards as well as Surplusrifle.com a lot. I encourage anyone reading this to check out Surplusrifle.com soon, as Mr. Jamie Mangrum is shutting down the site next year due to personal illness.

I think that'll do for now.
