Gunnie bleg...Got a general question for everyone. I've got a possible chance to trade a Sig 229 plus some cash for a Colt Gold Cup National Match 1911. The gentleman with the Colt has told me that he is interested in the Sig and will get back to me later this weekend. Here's a picture of the Colt. Now, I own two .40 S&W pistols. One's a Smith & Wesson SW99 full size; the other is the Sig. I tried to get him interested in the SW99, to no avail. I picked the Sig up cheap, in LNIB condition from a local cop who had picked it up as an off-duty (private) gun but found it to be too heavy. I bought three pre-ban hi-cap magazines (I'm in MA) and one 10-rounder, and the gun came with two 10-rounders and two holsters. I blogged about it at Toys in the Attic here. When I got the Sig, it was with every intention of parlaying it into another firearm, knowing that what I paid for it was at least $200 less than what it was worth. I've shot it a couple of times, and it's nice. I've heard the National Match Colt's referred to as the "Holy Grail" of 1911s - in that they're the definitive standard for how a 1911 should shoot. However, I've also heard that Sigs are considered some of the best pistols out there. So, I guess my question is, is this a fair trade? If yes, why am I hesitating; if no, why is the Colt going so cheap? Any thoughts/opinions/comments/anecdotes would be appreciated...

Get what you want. I love
Get what you want. I love sigs and like 1911s and would stick with the sig but that's all preference and not because one is necessarily better than the other.

Can't we all just get a long gun?
Unc, I'm more of a 1911 man.
Unc,
I'm more of a 1911 man. I've shot the Sig twice; it's nice, that's for certain, but it didn't really do much for me otherwise. It's too heavy for carry, so that's pretty much a wash (actually the Colt comes out a little ahead, since it's thinner, and 8 vs 12 rounds of .45 ACP vs .40 S&W isn't much of a change.
I just got word back. He's interested in the trade, giving me $625 for the Sig and another $100 for the hi-cap mags. I've got $490 into the Sig & hi-caps, plus $225 cash and we'll call it an even swap.
$715 for a Colt Gold Cup National Match. Given that you can't even get them in MA anyways, and Sigs are on the approved list, I'm gonna do it...
Thanks for listening...
Wow, he'll pay that? Does
Wow, he'll pay that? Does he want one with 6 hi-caps? ;)

OOPS!
No, I meant that he's giving me $625 for the Sig OFF the price of the Colt. He wants $950. I trade him the Sig ($625), the 3 hi-caps ($100) and $225 cash for the Colt.
Since I paid $490 for the Sig & hi-caps, combined with the $225 cash I'll be paying, that's $715 for a Colt Gold Cup National Match 1911.
I think it's a good deal... :)
