So, What Exactly Was It?

Checking out this story from the Philly area, I read the following:

The Turkish-made handgun, which can be used as both an automatic and semiautomatic weapon, was found on the floor of the SUV along with a bottle of liquor, Lewandowski said. The gun cannot be sold in the United States because it can be used in an automatic mode, he said.

(emphasis mine)

Any idea what this could be?

Beretta 93R or the Glock 18

The only pistols that I KNOW can be used as fully automatic are the Beretta 93R or the Glock 18. Could it be a Turkish made Broomhandle Mauser? I'll keep looking.

Knew about the Glock

Just can't help but think they got their story wrong.

Possibly a variant of the

Possibly a variant of the Pernach? It uses 9x18 Mak ammo, according to the web site, while 9x19 Luger/Parabellum is our ordinary 9mm. That'd explain the jam - wrong ammo.

A full-auto copy of a Broomhandle Mauser? (as stile noted in the first reply)

Pernach?

Never heard of that one before. It does explain the jam.

Email sent ...

So, I emailed the writer. Maybe he has more info.

Probably not an actual Pernach (I'd never heard of them before, either) since those appear to be quite uncommon.

Maybe a Beretta 93R? Turks have a bunch of Beretta tooling and machinery. (again, as stile noted in the first reply)

Most Likely

I'd think it would be a Beretta over a Glock. No Turkish Glocks I know of.

Doh! *slaps forehead*

Um, of course, stile in the first comment mentioned both the 93R and the Broomhandle. I missed that twice. Apologies to stile, and my posts edited to provide proper credit.

Don't sweat it!

Don't sweat it! You had some great information yourself. I was wrong on a particular though, The 93R fires in three round bursts, not fully automatic like the Glock. (or so I read years ago)
