To much gun?

I deer hunt in South Carolina where you can see up to about a 300 yard shot. I hunt with a Winchester Model 70 7mm Rem Mag. Does anybody think that is to much gun?

Maybe...

... not at 300 yards, but 50? Possibly. =)

i agree

i agree at 50 yards the 7mag packs quite a punch, but its those long shot that i dont want to have to worry about wether or not im aiming high enough on the back so it will hit properly. i just aim and shoot. no worries.my hunting buddies dont agree. they think i should be out there with a 223 or 30-30, just enough gun.

depends on the definition of is...

Too much gun meaning you're nuts for using it? Nope. Not if you shoot it well. Too much meaning something less could do the job? Sure. But given you want a 300yd point blank zero (i.e., you want to hold center out to 300), you made a good choice. If you're willing to consider holding over a bit, then you could use something less. Otherwise, I wouldn't recommend shooting a small doe for the freezer at 25 yards. Of course, if you were hoping for an excuse for a new rifle, then it's way too much gun.
