Okay. What now? As I see it, McCain is going to be the Republican nominee and he "Aint our kind of people" as my Great Grandma use to say. What can we do to turn this to our favor? I for one don't have any ideas other than having the NRA and other pro-rights groups put pressure on him which I don't see as having any effect (if it hasn't happened yet, why would it happen now?). I'm open to ideas.
Try to minimize the damage
Realisticaly, hope / press for a good VP choice.
Partly because a good VP could / should help minimize the damage McCain will do and partly because there's the chance (there's always the chance) that McCain won't complete his term.
I have to admit that of the current probably choices McCain is the one least likely to inspire 'rooftop recalls' - and I really don't want that kind of thing going on.

I don't know...It seems to me that a VP doesn't really effect anything other than as a back up to the Pres and as a tie breaker in the senate. I just don't see a good VP (even Thompson as Rustmeister suggested) being able to hold McCain back on gun control (or more to the point, push him into gun rights). I just have never seen a VP really DO ANYTHING in my lifetime. Hope I'm wrong on that. Heck, I hope I'm wrong about McCain being against my rights.
